The 885 Fuel Cell Potentiostat / Galvanostat is an integrated device designed for automated diagnostics such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) when combined with Scribners fuel cell test systems. It offers two versions: a vertical chassis for use with 850/855 series systems and a horizontal chassis for use with 840/890 series systems. The device supports sweep functions for CV and LSV measurements, automated switching between load and potentiostat operation, and compatibility with the 850 Auto Multigas Unit for seamless transitions between normal fuel cell operation and diagnostic mode. It also supports voltammetry for in-situ fuel crossover and electrochemical surface area measurement, galvanic control with fine current resolution for high accuracy Tafel experiments, and data analysis with FCView® and CView™ software. The 5A version allows working with larger cells up to 50 to 100 cm2 and/or cells with ultra-high true surface area. Optional FRA for EIS measurements (1mHz to 40 kHz) and ZView® for graphing and analysis of EIS data are available.

Use Cases

  • Automated electrochemical diagnostics in fuel cell testing systems
  • Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry experiments
  • Fuel crossover and electrochemical surface area (ECSA) analysis
  • High-accuracy Tafel measurements

Capabilities

  • Provides potentiostat and galvanostat control modes for electrochemical testing
  • Enables automated switching between electronic load testing and potentiostat diagnostics.
  • Supports CV and LSV sweep measurements with scan rates from 1 mV/s to 1 V/s.
  • Allows EIS measurements with optional FRA module (1 mHz – 40 kHz).
Scribner, LLC Scribner, LLC is a U.S. electrochemical instrumentation company based in North Carolina and known for test systems, measurement electronics and analysis software used by academic, government and industrial research laboratories. The company developed from electrochemical research expertise and has built a portfolio around fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, redox-flow cells, membrane testing, impedance spectroscopy and corrosion research. Hydrogen is central to several of its product families: Scribner manufactures fuel-cell test stations for PEM and related cell chemistries and electrolyzer test systems for detailed characterization of single cells and small stacks. Its equipment can integrate power supplies, electronic loads, potentiostats, impedance analysis, gas and water management, product-flow measurement and crossover monitoring, allowing developers to study efficiency, degradation and operating limits under controlled conditions. Within the hydrogen value chain, Scribner is therefore an R&D and validation equipment supplier supporting membrane, catalyst, MEA, stack and electrolyzer developers that require precise electrochemical testing rather than a producer of commercial hydrogen systems.
