Self-acting pressure reducers are simple control valves offering accurate control while being easy to install and maintain. They control the pressure downstream of the valve without requiring pneumatic or electrical control elements. The pressure reducing valve DM 505 is a diaphragm-controlled springloaded proportional control valve for small volumes. This pressure reducer is manufactured from deep-drawn stainless steel featuring excellent corrosion resistance. The tubular inlet spigot of the valve body accommodates the seat aperture. The soft-sealing valve cone is guided in the seat assembly and connected with the control diaphragm by means of a stirrup which surrounds the seat assembly.

Use Cases

  • Typically used in small-flow industrial liquid, gas, and steam pressure regulation applications.

Capabilities

  • Reduces inlet pressures up to 250 bar to controlled outlet pressures between 0.005 and 20 bar, depending on spring setting.
  • Operates self-acting, without external power.
  • Suitable for liquids, gases, and steam up to 130 °C.
  • Allows easy maintenance and spring/diaphragm replacement without special tools.
  • Configurable with optional sealed spring cap and leakage line for hazardous media.
Mankenberg GmbH Mankenberg GmbH, founded in 1885 by Gustav Mankenberg and headquartered in Lubeck, Germany with 185 employees (end of 2024), is a manufacturer of self-acting control valves for pressure and level control, focusing on standard products alongside customized solutions for demanding industrial applications, and has developed products specifically supporting hydrogen production via PEM electrolysis. The company's ATEX-compliant hydrogen pressure regulators, including the DM 555 (spring-loaded proportional control valve for small/medium flow rates, stainless steel 316L body and wetted parts), DM 652 (diaphragm-controlled, spring-loaded, and balanced proportional control valve for medium/large flow rates), and UV 5.1/UV 3.5 back pressure regulators/pressure sustaining valves, are manufactured entirely of high-quality stainless steel via deep-drawing processes for lightweight, compact, corrosion-resistant construction meeting DIN EN 60534-4 and ANSI FCI 70-2 leakage classification standards. Mankenberg's ATEX marking (Ex II 2G Ex h IIB+H2 85 degrees C) certifies suitability for use in explosive hydrogen atmospheres, with the company's self-acting valve technology featuring compact design, pressure resistance, and high corrosion resistance particularly suited to PEM electrolysis (protone exchange membrane electrolysis, considered to have the greatest potential among current hydrogen production processes) applications requiring precise pressure control without pneumatic or electrical control elements. As green hydrogen breaks down water into hydrogen and oxygen via electrolysis using electrical voltage and becomes increasingly important for electricity, heat, and energy storage as a flexible energy carrier, Mankenberg continues supplying specifically-developed self-acting control valve products supporting the growing hydrogen production infrastructure market.
