The UV 5.1 ATEX H2 Back Pressure Regulator is a self-acting back pressure regulator designed for use in explosive atmospheres (ex atmospheres) and for medium to high flow rates. It is a diaphragm-controlled, spring-loaded proportional regulator with relief, constructed entirely of high-quality stainless steel, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance. This regulator offers accurate pressure control without the need for pneumatic or electrical control elements. It is compliant with the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU and DIN EN ISO 80079-36, featuring a leakage line connection, adjusting screw seal and lock, potential equalization, protected body connections, a grounding lug, and the use of low-spark materials. It is suitable for liquids, gases, and steam, operating within a temperature range of -10°C to +50°C. The regulator has a wide range of Kvs values (3.5-22 m³/h) and is available in various connection sizes (DN 15-50, G 1/2-2).

Use Cases

  • Valve for ex atmospheres and medium to high flow rates
  • Used in industrial settings requiring pressure regulation in hazardous areas
  • Used in systems involving liquids, gases, and steam

Capabilities

  • Controls upstream pressure in defined setting ranges from 0.02 to 12 bar, depending on spring configuration.
  • Operates fully self-acting, without external energy.
  • Handles liquids, gases, and steam up to 130 °C.
  • Supports DN 15–50 with Kvs values up to 22 m³/h.
  • Designed for easy maintenance and reconfiguration via modular spring/diaphragm assembly.
Mankenberg GmbH Mankenberg GmbH, founded in 1885 by Gustav Mankenberg and headquartered in Lubeck, Germany with 185 employees (end of 2024), is a manufacturer of self-acting control valves for pressure and level control, focusing on standard products alongside customized solutions for demanding industrial applications, and has developed products specifically supporting hydrogen production via PEM electrolysis. The company's ATEX-compliant hydrogen pressure regulators, including the DM 555 (spring-loaded proportional control valve for small/medium flow rates, stainless steel 316L body and wetted parts), DM 652 (diaphragm-controlled, spring-loaded, and balanced proportional control valve for medium/large flow rates), and UV 5.1/UV 3.5 back pressure regulators/pressure sustaining valves, are manufactured entirely of high-quality stainless steel via deep-drawing processes for lightweight, compact, corrosion-resistant construction meeting DIN EN 60534-4 and ANSI FCI 70-2 leakage classification standards. Mankenberg's ATEX marking (Ex II 2G Ex h IIB+H2 85 degrees C) certifies suitability for use in explosive hydrogen atmospheres, with the company's self-acting valve technology featuring compact design, pressure resistance, and high corrosion resistance particularly suited to PEM electrolysis (protone exchange membrane electrolysis, considered to have the greatest potential among current hydrogen production processes) applications requiring precise pressure control without pneumatic or electrical control elements. As green hydrogen breaks down water into hydrogen and oxygen via electrolysis using electrical voltage and becomes increasingly important for electricity, heat, and energy storage as a flexible energy carrier, Mankenberg continues supplying specifically-developed self-acting control valve products supporting the growing hydrogen production infrastructure market.
