GYLON EPIX® Style 3510

Enhanced PTFE Sealing for Challenging Hydrogen Environments

As Germany accelerates its hydrogen strategy—driven by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)—industries are under increasing pressure to ensure hydrogen systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with strict regulations. GYLON EPIX® Style 3510 is designed to meet these expectations, providing a robust sealing solution for the rapidly expanding hydrogen economy.

Hydrogen systems require gasket materials capable of withstanding not only gaseous hydrogen but also cryogenic temperatures, fluctuating pressures, and chemically aggressive environments. GYLON EPIX® Style 3510 meets these challenges with its unique PTFE formulation combined with the performance‑enhancing EPIX® surface structure, offering improved sealing adaptation and stability.

Certified for Hydrogen Performance

GYLON® and GYLON EPIX® Style 3510 have been rigorously tested by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin.
The test series “Characterization of polymer materials before and after storage in hydrogen” demonstrated excellent material behavior, confirming 3510’s suitability for hydrogen exposure.

Backed by decades of use in hydrogen applications, GYLON® materials have proven technical tightness through EN 13555 sealing characteristic testing using helium—an even smaller molecule than hydrogen. This provides strong confidence in long-term leak‑tight performance.

Since hydrogen applications fall under TA‑Luft requirements, Style 3510 supports EN 1591‑1/VDI 2290 calculations for technical tightness, including creep behavior and maximum surface pressure considerations.

Key Advantages of GYLON EPIX® Style 3510

  • Enhanced sealing thanks to the EPIX® surface structure, improving compression behavior and adaptability.
  • Designed for environments where chemical resistance is critical, such as aggressive or oxidizing media commonly found in hydrogen processes.
  • Demonstrates long-term sealing reliability due to its stable PTFE matrix and reduced cold-flow characteristics.
  • Suitable for diverse hydrogen-related operations, including regulated environments and safety‑critical applications.
  • Offers long shelf life and resistance to environmental influences, supporting long-term maintenance and storage needs.

Ideal Use Areas

GYLON EPIX® Style 3510 is suitable for a wide range of hydrogen industry applications, including:

  • Hydrogen production (electrolyzers and reforming systems)
  • Hydrogen transport, distribution, and storage systems
  • Chemical and petrochemical hydrogen processes
  • Cryogenic hydrogen applications
  • Process equipment requiring TA‑Luft–compliant sealing
  • Equipment exposed to chemically aggressive media alongside hydrogen
