Hydrogen Component Testing and Validation

  • Developing and validating hydrogen components often requires extensive testing under demanding pressure conditions. However, building dedicated test infrastructure is expensive, time-consuming, and rarely justified for individual projects or prototype validation.
  • With Poppe + Potthoff Maschinenbau's Test-as-a-Service, manufacturers, suppliers, and development teams gain access to advanced high-pressure testing capabilities without investing in their own test benches.
  • Simply provide your component, define the testing requirements, and receive reliable, documented results from our testing facility in Nordhausen, Germany.

Comprehensive Testing Capabilities

  • Our high-pressure test systems enable precise control of pressure, flow, temperature, and test media. Depending on the application, components can be tested at pressures up to 15,000 bar.

Applications

  • Hydrogen valves, regulators, fittings, and tank components
  • Pressure vessels and storage systems
  • Injector lines and fuel systems
  • Common rails and pump heads
  • Cold plates and thermal management systems
  • Hydraulic and fluid handling components
  • Prototype and pre-series components

Available Test Services

  • Pressure Cycle & Impulse Pressure Testing
    • Evaluate fatigue resistance and long-term durability under defined pressure ranges, frequencies, and load cycles. Continuous monitoring ensures repeatable and reliable results.
  • Burst Pressure Testing
    • Determine the maximum pressure capacity of a component through controlled pressure increase until failure. High-resolution measurement systems precisely identify and document the burst point.
  • Leak Testing
    • For hydrogen applications, forming gas (N₂/H₂) and sniffing methods enable highly sensitive leak detection. Pressure decay testing is available for hydraulic and fluid components.
  • Hydrostatic Pressure Testing
    • Verify the strength and structural integrity of pressure-containing components under controlled liquid pressure while ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Reliable test results require a reliable interface between the component and the test system. Poppe + Potthoff designs and manufactures dedicated fixtures tailored to the geometry, pressure level, and testing requirements of each component. Existing customer fixtures can also be integrated and adapted as needed.
  • Every project starts with defining the required pressure range, test medium, cycle profile, and acceptance criteria. Components are safely integrated into calibrated test equipment, and the complete pressure history is recorded in real time throughout the test.

After completion, customers receive

  • Raw measurement data
  • Pressure curves and test documentation
  • Leak rate and burst analysis
  • Structured test reports
  • Optional TÜV-witnessed testing and certification support
