HYTP is a visual hydrogen leak detection tape designed to identify hydrogen leaks through a color change mechanism. The product is applied directly to components, and its color changes from light beige (no leak) to grey when hydrogen leakage is detected. It is a passive detection solution that requires no electricity or batteries. The tape is made of solid silicone material and provides strong adhesion for use on various hydrogen system components. It is suitable for detecting leaks in hydrogen infrastructure, including pipelines, fittings, and refueling systems. The product is available in multiple formats, including pouch (HYTP015M) and tape variants (HYTP025M, HYTP050M).

Use Cases

  • Leak detection on valves, flanges, fittings, connectors, and couplings
  • Use on parts under vibration and welded pipes
  • Hydrogen refueling stations
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs)
  • Hydrogen laboratories
  • General hydrogen infrastructure

Capabilities

  • Detects hydrogen leaks through visible color change (light beige → grey)
  • Enables passive leak detection without power supply
  • Suitable for application on various component geometries
  • Maintains adhesion under typical operating conditions including vibration
  • Provides rapid visual indication of leakage presence
Hylium Industries, Inc. Hylium Industries, Inc., established in 2014 as a spin-off venture company from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and based in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, developed the country's first cryogenic liquid hydrogen manufacturing and storage technology, becoming Korea's first independent manufacturer of liquid hydrogen technologies with a comprehensive product portfolio spanning liquid hydrogen storage, transportation, liquefaction, and refueling technologies, as well as liquid hydrogen drones and hydrogen safety devices. The company's hydrogen liquefier employs the Gifford-McMahon (GM) and Joule-Thomson (JT) thermodynamic cycle combined with state-of-the-art super vacuum insulation technology and an integrated ortho-para converter, achieving 99.99% high-purity liquid hydrogen production while advanced sensors provide real-time monitoring and precise control of liquid hydrogen levels, temperature, and pressure conditions. Hylium signed a deal with AirFirst Co., South Korea's leading industrial gas provider, to supply high-capacity liquefied hydrogen storage tanks designed to minimize boil-off losses and reduce transportation risks through advanced temperature control and pressure maintenance systems, and received Approval in Principle (AIP) from the Korean Register alongside KRISO, POSCO, and Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE) for liquid hydrogen fuel tanks for ships using both standard 316L and POSCO's next-generation 316HN stainless steel that better resists hydrogen embrittlement at -253 degrees C. As the first company in South Korea to localize manufacturing of liquefied hydrogen storage tanks, Hylium Industries continues advancing its complete liquid hydrogen ecosystem, having achieved a 3x flight duration improvement over pressurized H2 systems through its liquid hydrogen-electric drone technology partnership with H3 Dynamics.
