Ammonia Heating for NH3 Cracking - TUTCO

  • Ammonia is increasingly used as a hydrogen carrier due to its ease of storage and transport. To recover the hydrogen, ammonia must be cracked into hydrogen and nitrogen at elevated temperatures, typically between 500–800 °C.
  • This process relies on high-temperature electrical inline gas heaters, which must deliver consistent heat while withstanding the ammonia’s very corrosive properties. These heaters are especially important in systems where heat recovery isn’t feasible or during start-up.
  • When powered by renewable electricity, those electric heaters help maintain an overall carbon-free hydrogen supply chain, making them essential to the practical use of ammonia.
