The JGF Process Compressor is an Ariel moderate-speed reciprocating process-compressor frame listed for downstream, refinery and chemical process service and supported for hydrogen and non-lubricated applications. Its verified operating geometry is a 5.0 in stroke with a piston speed of 600 ft/min at a process speed of 720 rpm. Ariel’s process-compressor platform is designed in accordance with API 618 for critical process duties and uses a balanced-opposed frame architecture with forged-steel crankshaft and connecting-rod components. The process-cylinder design supports both lubricated and non-lubricated service, with purged and water-cooled packing cases, application-specific valve design, hardened cylinder bores and capacity or load-control devices available. In hydrogen service, the process-compressor range is used for hydrogen makeup and recycle, hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrotreating, hydrocracking and other hydrogen-rich process duties.

Use Cases

  • Hydrogen makeup and recycle compression
  • Hydrogen production process compression
  • Hydrogen storage compression
  • Hydrotreating service
  • Hydrocracking service
  • Syngas and hydrogen-rich industrial-gas process service

Capabilities

  • Provides moderate-speed reciprocating compression for critical process applications
  • Supports non-lubricated hydrogen process service
  • Supports application-specific valve configurations and non-metallic wear materials
  • Can use purged and water-cooled packing cases
  • Supports capacity and load-control devices where required by the process configuration
  • Uses hardened cylinder bores and hardened alloy-steel piston rods for process-cylinder duty
ARIEL Corporation Ariel Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of separable reciprocating gas compressors, based in Mount Vernon, Ohio, with a dedicated hydrogen compressor product line spanning 40–6,700 hp and discharge pressures up to 6,000 psig. The company has supplied over 150 hydrogen compressors and 500 hydrogen compressor cylinders for refinery, chemical, and industrial gas plant operations since 1966, and has partnered with HOERBIGER to develop the KBH, a dry-running (non-lubricated), high-flow reciprocating compressor purpose-built for hydrogen mobility and refueling station applications up to 500 bar. Ariel operates a dedicated hydrogen test facility in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to validate compressor performance and component life on 100% hydrogen. The company has shipped over 70,000 compressors total across the global energy, industrial gas, and gas transportation markets.
