The Electrolyser Module is Ceres Power's modular hydrogen-production building block, built on the solid oxide platform. It is a modular building block for large-scale hydrogen production, which includes the stacks, pressure vessels and electrical systems needed to integrate them into an industrial plant, and Ceres' lower operating temperatures enable the centralisation of balance of plant, leading to high system efficiencies, modular deployment, simpler maintenance and lower-cost, high-volume manufacture that benefits from economies of scale. The module takes 9.1MWac of power input and delivers a hydrogen production efficiency of 37kWh/kg at a production rate of 6 tonnes/day.

Use Cases

  • Large-scale, pressurised hydrogen production for industrial plants
  • Modular and scalable deployment for multi-MW real-world applications

Capabilities

  • Produces pressurised hydrogen with inherent robustness suited to transportation and cyclic operation
  • Delivers 6 tonnes/day of hydrogen at 37 kWh/kg
  • Draws 9.1 MWac of electrical power input
  • Integrates its own electrical package and heat-recovery system, so it doesn't need separate balance-of-plant equipment for those functions
  • Rated for outdoor siting without an enclosure building
Ceres Power Holdings plc

Ceres Power Holdings plc, a UK-based developer of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) technology, licenses its intellectual property to global manufacturing partners for the production of green hydrogen and clean power, having demonstrated its reversible technology at megawatt scale and being cited by the UK Hydrogen Strategy alongside ITM Power and Johnson Matthey as at the forefront of UK hydrogen technology development. The company's reversible SteelCell technology can generate electricity from multiple fuels in one direction, or produce green hydrogen at low cost and high efficiency in reverse (SOEC electrolysis mode), and Ceres announced first hydrogen production at its MW-scale SOEC electrolyzer demonstrator unit in India in May 2025. Key hydrogen-related manufacturing licensing partnerships include Denso (SOEC stack manufacturing to support a hydrogen supply chain, demonstrated jointly with JERA) and Thermax (adding SOEC hydrogen production systems based on Ceres' technology to its Indian product portfolio), alongside dual SOFC/SOEC licensee Delta Electronics. Ceres continues developing stack platforms capable of generating power or producing hydrogen from the same core cell and stack design, enabling manufacturing partners to build both fuel cell and electrolysis stacks from shared production facilities as the company works toward becoming the global industry standard for solid oxide hydrogen and power technology.
